Trunk or Treat!!!

For Halloween this year we participated in Trunk or Treat at my daughters' Elementary School, and of course, it was all about Nerf!

For those that have never heard of this tradition, Trunk or Treat is an event put on by schools and churches as an alternative to trick or treating. Cars are lined up in the parking lot and decorated, sometimes with games or activities for the kids as they go around from car to car collecting candy.

We decided to do a game, turning our Dodge Journey into a Zombie-themed shooting range. A cardboard sign and a few hand-painted zombie cutouts later, we were in business!

I chose the Slingfire, The Crossbolt, and the Guardian Crossbow as the blaster choices for the kids. I brought a few hundered darts, and a bunch of 6 round clips.

Long story short, it was insane! The line to play quickly stretched across the whole event, and we spent the next several hours frantically reloading and helping the little ones to prime and shoot. Everyone had a great time, and the kids voted us Best Trunk!

Now, since this is a Nerf Blog, I suppose I should take a few minutes to write about how my blasters fared against the 3 hour onslaught of sugar-crazed little kids!

~The Slingfire probably took the worst beating, mostly due to improper priming, and I had to unjam/fix it at least half a dozen times. It was a popular choice, but many kids had trouble holding it correctly.

~ The Crossbolt got the most "woah, cool!" reactions, and was a solid performer, with only one major jam. There were quite a few dropped clips, however, as people were accidently pushing the clip-release while shouldering it.

~The Guardian Crossbow was the sleeper hit, being used by about 75% of the girls (and more than a few boys!) and functioning flawlessly all night. The front load made for a bit slower turnaround than the other two, but performance was solid and it was easy for the smaller kids to prime.

All in all it was an awesome event, and we can't wait to outdo ourselves next year!
